So… Do You Really Need a Website?

In all instances, the resounding answer is YES! All too often we come across small businesses that feel all of their work comes from referrals and most of the time this is true, however, what would their business be doing if they had a sales executive that never slept? Never took time off for holidays or illness? And stayed loyal sticking by them through thick and thin?

As crazy as it sounds, that is what you get with a website. A website is your fully polished, presentable executive that is easy to approach and makes your customers feel secure in placing business with you. A website will give your customers a sense of “getting to know” your business and will help them make an informed decision, without having to sit through long, boring appointments, being sold to. Most customers will want to research your business online before even taking the steps towards contacting you, if you don’t have a website, that can be very difficult for them to do.

When it comes to referrals, we still believe that this is a great way to run your business. Referral business is usually instant and the customer has a superb reference point, however, whilst you are building up referrals, wouldn’t it be nice to have a website that is also generating interest in what you do? This is where a professionally designed website will help your business increase revenue and your customer base. With the right content and a fresh look to your company you will start seeing the benefits of having a website immediately. Even if you speak with a potential customer and guide them towards your website, your prospect will be able to see previous work, what your business stands for and most importantly if you are the right company for them to place business with.

Ok… So I Need A Website, What Do I Need To Do?

Contact a web design agency, even if you fill out an online form, they will come back to you with all of the information that you need. Make sure to do your research and look at past examples of their work. You can ask as many questions as you like, after all, you are now in the position your customers will be in when choosing whether your company is right for them.

Ask about support and extra charges, make sure you have a check list of everything you expect to get from your website. Ask for a plan of action and also make sure you are dealing with an agency that has a plan on how they will set out your new website. The last thing you want is to have a pretty website that is not fit for purpose. User Experience is a huge factor when designing a website, if the user doesn’t feel comfortable and does not have all of the information at the tips of their fingers they simply will not carry on looking at the website.

Below we have included a check list for you, so that you can be confident you have asked the right questions about your new website:

  • Will I get to preview my website before the build takes place?
  • Will you show me a plan of the User Experience and explain why you have set out the website the way you have?
  • Once the website has been built what other costs and charges are involved?
  • What do I get included in the package I.E. Contact Form, Map, Images Supplied, Content Supplied and so on
  • Do you want control over your hosting and emails? Or are you happy for the design agency to supply this?
  • Will there be basic SEO included?
  • Will you be charged for maintenance?
  • What are the payment terms?

These are just a few questions we recommend asking when speaking with the agency you choose to build your website. A professional agency will include all of this information within the brief sent to you, along with designs of the home page at least.

Is There Anything Else I need To Find Out?

There is a lot of information that you will need to collect when looking at having a website built, due to many agencies and freelancers offering different services and packages, you may be better looking at a few and narrowing your search down to 2 or 3. Get a feel for the agency by reading through their website.
